Pickup is between 1:00 AM and 2:30 AM, depending on your hotel. You reach the base of Mount Batur around 3:30 AM, meet a local trekking guide, take a flashlight, and start the hike in the cool night air.

Mount Batur stands at 1,717 meters. The hike usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours to the summit, depending on pace. From the crater rim you look across Mount Agung, Mount Abang, and Lake Batur as the sun comes up.

After sunrise the guide cooks a small breakfast over the mountain steam vents: banana sandwiches, eggs, biscuits, and hot tea or coffee. You then walk down and continue to the stops in the package you booked, before the drop-off at your hotel.

Itinerary

1. 01:30–03:00 AM

   Hotel pickup

   Pickup from Ubud, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Legian, Jimbaran, or Nusa Dua, then the drive to the start. The wider pickup window is 1:00–2:30 AM, depending on the hotel.

2. 03:30–03:45 AM

   Base camp

   Arrive at Toya Bungkah or Pura Jati. Safety briefing, flashlight, and trekking poles.

3. 04:00 AM

   Start the trek

   A sandy path, then forest and volcanic rock. The guide sets the pace and helps on the steeper sections.

4. 05:45–06:00 AM

   Sunrise at the summit

   Lake Batur, Mount Abang, and Mount Agung. On a clear morning, Mount Rinjani can show across the Lombok Strait.

5. 06:15 AM

   Breakfast at the steam vents

   Banana sandwiches, eggs, biscuits, and hot tea or coffee, cooked over the mountain steam.

6. 06:45–07:30 AM

   Crater

   Walk the crater rim, watch the steam vents, and take photos with the guide.

7. 07:30 AM

   Descend

   The standard trail down. A motorbike taxi is sometimes available on another route; it is not included.

8. 09:30–11:00 AM

   The rest of the package

   Hot spring, Akasa Coffee, Kanto Lampo Waterfall, Uma Ceking rice terrace and swing, or the coffee plantation, depending on the package.

9. 12:00–01:00 PM

   Hotel drop-off

   Back at the same hotel.
